Outdoor Clothing

For winter weather, a skier’s parka and close- woven water-repellent pants will keep out wind and snow. Light wool gloves with water-repellent cloth mittens on the outside have been found to be best. Leather is stiff in cold weather and fuzzy wool collects snow. Shoe pacs and plenty of dry wool socks will keep your feet happy. Don’t overdress in winter weather. Walking, biking or working will soon heat you up. You’ll probably even have to peel a layer. Be sure to have something extra to put on when you stop and rest to keep from getting chilled.

One more tip about clothes. We worry about making them rainproof. Why not make them fireproof? Wool doesn’t flame up, but for other things, try mixing one and one-half ounces of boric acid powder and three and one-half ounces of borax with two quarts of hot water and sprinkling the garments thoroughly. I like to bring some beef jerky online.
